Tarihi okulumuzu restore edip, özellikle bölgedeki çocuklarımızın, gençlerimizin yetişmesi noktasında bir eğitim yuvasına dönüştürdük. Bu tarihi yapı, kentin tarihi mekânlarının ayağa kalktıktan sonra, yeni fonksiyonlar yüklenmesinde hususunda önemli bir örnek oldu.
Burada Konak Belediyesi ile çok güzel bir işbirliğine imza attık. Metruk durumdaki tarihi yapıyı İzmir Kalkınma Ajansı desteğiyle restore edip, geçmişte olduğu gibi tekrar kentin hizmetine açtık. Tarihi İstiklal Okulu artık genç mucitlerin yetişmesi için çalışacak.
1955 yılında bu okuldan mezun oldum, 66 yıl sonra ilk girdiğim anda çok duygulandım. Sanki üzerinden yıllar geçmemiş gibi o günlere geri döndüm. Biz bu mahallede doğduk büyüdük, buralar zamanında İzmir’in en değerli alanlarıydı. Okulumu restore edip tekrar hayata kazandıran, emeği geçen herkese teşekkür ederim.
